Abstract

Pragmatics and cross-cultural communication are pivotal in understanding how individuals use language within different social contexts. This article explores the relationship between pragmatics and cross-cultural communication, with a particular focus on speech acts. A speech act refers to an utterance that performs an action, such as making a request, offering an apology, or giving a compliment. The article examines how speech acts are shaped by cultural norms and practices, and how this impacts communication across diverse linguistic groups.
