VOWEL LENGTH AND TENSION IN COMMAND FORMS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK
Abstract
This article examines the phonological features of vowel length
and tension in imperative(command) forms in English and Uzbek. While English
employs phonemic vowel length and tension distinctions inherently in its verbs,
Uzbek relies on vowel harmony without systematic use of vowel length or tension.
The study highlights typological differences between Indo-European and Turkic
languages, emphasizing how these features are preserved or absent in command
structures.
